Frequently Asked Questions

It is understandable if you have questions about dentistry and how it works. We are here to help! That is why we’ve assembled the following brief list of FAQs. If you do not see the information you were hoping for, you are more than welcome to get in touch with us directly. We will do our best to answer your questions as completely as possible.

How Do I Get Emergency Care?

Call Nu Dental Brick as soon as your dental emergency begins. We’ll provide you with first-aid tips and arrange our schedule to see you as soon as possible, probably even on the same day that you call. The only time you should not call us for a dental emergency is if you are suffering from life-threatening symptoms, such as excessive bleeding or a high fever along with your toothache. In such cases, you should head to the local emergency room or call 911.

How Much Does It Cost to Get a Tooth Pulled without Insurance?

The cost of a tooth extraction can vary depending on geographical location, your dental health, and whether you must undergo a simple or complex extraction.  Whether or not sedation dentistry is used also plays a role in determining cost. In the U.S., the average cost to get a tooth pulled is between $150 and $400 (wisdom tooth extractions tend to cost more). The team at Nu Dental Brick will always be upfront with you about price.

What Do You Do if You Can’t Afford a Dentist?

Effective dentistry focuses on prevention. Keeping up with regular appointments can actually help you save hundreds or even thousands of dollars in the long run. Plus, there are several provisions that may make it easier to fit your care into your budget. For example, most insurance policies cover 100% of the cost of cleanings and checkups and a significant portion of the cost of other services. At Nu Dental Brick, we even have an in-house savings plan to help our patients who do not have insurance. We also offer specials to lower the cost of certain services.

If you do not have insurance and your budget does not allow you to purchase a membership plan, your healthcare provider may be able to help you get Medicaid or Medicare dental benefits.

How Do You Find a Top Dentist?

You can begin your search by Googling “dentist near me.” On the search results page, you’ll find a list of local dentists. Then, you can narrow your search by the criteria that you are looking for in an oral healthcare provider. For example, many people give a lot of weight to reviews of past patients. You can also find out a lot about a dentist by visiting their website and checking out their biography. That is where you’ll learn about their training, education, and philosophy on dental care. When you find a dentist who appeals to you, schedule your first appointment with them to try them out in-person.

What Level of Education Is Required to Be a Dentist?

All dentists in the U.S. must possess either a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited school. Dental school usually lasts three years and involves both classroom learning and hands-on education. Prior to entering dental school, dentists must complete a bachelor’s degree, usually in a major that focuses on math or science.

After completing dental school, they must participate in a certain number of hours of continuing education every year (or every two years) in order to continue practicing. In New Jersey, dentists must complete 40 hours every two years. Dr. Gizachew of Nu Dental Brick completes almost 300 hours every year.
